BAE Systems and Sierra Nevada Corporation’s Open Architecture Signals Intelligence technology selected for first phase of US Air Force program


HUDSON, New Hampshire, October 19, 2021– (COMMERCIAL THREAD) – The US Air Force awarded BAE Systems-Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) a contract to design a prototype for the next-generation open architecture signals intelligence (SIGINT) as part of its Global High-altitude Open-system Sensor Technology (GHOST) program. This award is a continuation of BAE Systems, Inc.’s development efforts to provide full spectrum knowledge and actionable intelligence with a SIGINT sensor design.

“Our SIGINT technology is one of the few on the market designed from the ground up with an open architecture,” said David Logan, vice president and general manager of C4ISR Systems at BAE Systems. “We have worked closely with the customer community to design our solution this way, giving the Air Force the ability to easily add new capabilities in the future to counter evolving threats.

As part of the contract, awarded earlier this year, the team will provide a prototype sensor that will provide insight into the actions of opponents by collecting and analyzing electronic signals. It will harness the radio frequency (RF) spectrum, essential to battlefield superiority, to detect, identify, locate and track RF emissions.

BAE Systems offers a range of adaptive electromagnetic intelligence products that enable the combatant to face emerging and dynamic threats in all phases and domains of battle. The company has over 20 years of experience developing SIGINT open architecture software-defined systems, and our customers have logged over 100,000 hours of operation on our systems. The BAE Systems portion of the development work for this contract will take place at its facility in Hudson, NH

SNC is the pioneer of scalable open architecture SIGINT solutions for airborne, land and maritime applications and is a global leader in electronic intelligence. SNC will perform GHOST’s work in Folsom, Calif., San Antonio, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio.
