Businesses can now provide electronic product details via a QR code

New Delhi [India]July 16 (ANI): In a bid to further boost the country’s ease of doing business rankings and reduce the compliance burden for electronics industries, the government has amended laws that allow the industry to Declare product information in digital form via QR code.
The Department of Consumer Affairs, under the Legal Metrology (Packaged Goods) Rules (Second Amendment) 2022, has permitted electronic products to declare certain mandatory declarations via QR code for a period of one year, if they do not are not declared in the packaging itself, the Department of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution said in a statement Saturday.
This amendment will allow the industry to declare the information produced in digital form via the QR Code.
It will make it possible to effectively declare important declarations on the label of the packaging while the other descriptive information can be transmitted to the Consumer via the QR Code.
The ministry to enable greater use of technology in the digital age to declare mandatory declaration through the QR code which can be scanned to display the declarations as the address of the manufacturer or packer or importer, the common or generic name of the merchandise, the size and dimension of the merchandise, and customer service details, excluding telephone number and e-mail address.
Previously, all pre-packaged goods, including electronic goods, had to declare all mandatory declarations in accordance with the Rules of Legal Metrology (Packaged Goods), Packaging Rules 2011. (ANI)
